The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern over the presence of a new variant of coronavirus. It is named 'Lambda'. It was first identified in Peru in August 2020. Since then, the strain has spread to at least 29 countries.
WHO has given it a place in the ‘Variant of Interest’ list. According to them, it is important to keep the Lambda strain under observation at the moment. Very soon, like Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, it will have to be included in the 'Variant of Concern' list. "The decision to declare the Lambda strain a" variant of interest "was made following the widespread spread of the lambda strain across South America," said WHO's weekly bulletin.
Coronavirus strains are divided into two parts. One contains all the strains that are causing epidemic-like problems. The strains on the other side are innocent, meaning there is no reason to fear. According to Hu, they have been monitoring the Lambda strain for a long time and its transmission capacity has gradually increased. It is also destroying the ability of antibodies.
So far, only the strains on the 'Variant of Concern' list have made headlines. Such as Alpha strain identified in Britain, Gamma strain identified in Brazil, Delta strain identified in India. On May 11, Delta Strain was listed as a "variant of interest" by WHO. But after that it was included in the list of 'Variants of Concern' due to its rapid spread and killing power. WHO worries if Lambda will play like that?
Experts are concerned about the constant evolution of the coronavirus. At the moment the only weapon in hand to prevent corona-war is antidote. But seeing the constant mutations of the virus, experts think, if the vaccine does not work after that! Because in some cases the virus is changing so much that the new strain is practically behaving like a new virus. The goal at the moment is to get as much vaccination as possible before the third wave hits.
